Litchfield, IL – It’s lighter. It’s stronger. It’s safer. It’s the Schutt ION 4D. You could say it is a new footbal helmet. But, truth is, it’s the next generation of football helmet designed for greater safety and improved player performance.
Schutt Sports announced growing sales today for their flagship sports helmet product line, “The Schutt ION 4D” and its shock-absorption counterpart “SKYDEX 2” form-fitting shock absorption system.
With the growing demand for safety of football players on the field at an all time high we want our boys to play harder.
But we also want them to stay safe. Professional football teams have tens of millions of dollars, in team equity, due to play on any given Sunday during the season.
With a more stable and form-fitting contact area, SKYDEX 2 padding will soon become the norm for cranial protection in for professional and amateur sports.
INTEGRATED FACEGUARD AND MOUNTING SYSTEM
Do you remember Chrysler’s ‘cab-forward’ engineering introduction about 10 years ago?
It revolutionized the way front windows are designed. With the ION-4D, the full-frontally integrated design allow for a greater field of vision—about 20% greater than a conventional helmet. That’s huge. Not only is that a big gain for the player, but also for the opposing team. Injuries relating to the externally protruding steel bars from face-masks are avoided.
A team practices in ‘shorts and helmets’ for a reason: to get used to the restrictions of the helmet, visual and physical.
A long way from their hard-plastic predecessors, and surely a long ways from the mid 1940’s style football helmets made of
leather, the next generation of football helmets are here and this is going to improve the game of football.
That means less preventable injuries for each player and that means great football. When you have great equipment and great players, that’s great football.
After reviewing the design of this helmet, the spirit in which is was created, I felt it was due to be written in Wikipedia. Here is a link to that entry.

Using the SKYDEX 2 gel insert with a wicking headliner, moisture is pulled away from the players head and greater contact area is attained. Shock absorption between the players head and the helmet’s shell is then maximized. Since the shock absorption system is based around a gel, no degradation of shock performance is experienced.
